They use different approaches such as information,
spiritual support or cognitive behavioural therapy and
yield varying success. The precondition for a successful
intervention is, in our opinion, to focus on the specific situation
of the patients. Short waiting times for CABG necessitate
an ad hoc intervention, which is suitable to identify the
stressors and to provide support within the short time at disposal.
Therefore, a structured design is desirable. The aim
of our study was to provide knowledge on the fears and
anxieties of CABG patients with short waiting periods as a
prerequisite for the development of an intervention.
