Mt. Sanbangsan
The yellow rapeseed flowers near Mt. Sanbangsan are also worth seeing. When the spring comes, Mt. Sanbangsan and the nearby areas transform into blankets of yellow rapeseed flowers. Noted spots are the field starting from under Mt. Sanbangsan downwards towards the Yongmeori Coast and the coastal road encasing Mt. Sanbangsan. As one of Jeju-do'sai Ten Sights, Mt. Sanbangsan is recognized for its unique shape, that resembles a bell with a sheer stone cliff. By walking a little further, you can arrive at Sanbanggulsa Temple and try the legendary mineral water that flows from the top of the mountain. Sanbanggulsa Temple was originally a natural cave housing a Buddhist statue. It was said that if you drink three sips of the mineral water dropping from the ceiling of the cave, you will live a long and blessed life. From Sanbanggulsa Temple, you can see the great scenery of Yongmeori Coast and Hwasun Beach. Driving along the coastal road near Mt. Sanbangsan is also a thrilling experience as the road along the cliff rises sharply. Along this road is Mt. Songaksan which is 104 meters above sea level. Located at the southern tip of Jeju-do, three sides of Mt. Songaksan are coastal precipices producing a beautiful backdrop. Furthermore Mt. Songaksan is less crowded than Seongsanpo or Seopjikoji, and attracts visitors who enjoy a peaceful ambience. You can even see Mara-do Island and Gapa-do Island located off the southernmost tip of Jeju-do. Also, locals of Jeju-do pick Mt. Songaksan as the best spot to view the sunrise and sunset. A good plan would be to view the sunset at Mt. Songaksan after your tour of the yellow rapeseed flower fields at Seongsan Sunrise Peak, Seopjikoji and Mt. Sanbangsan.
