The increasing expansion of agro-industrial activity has led to the
accumulation of a large quantity of lignocellulosic residues fromwood
(e.g. poplar trees), herbaceous (e.g. switchgrass), agricultural (e.g. corn
stover, and wheat straw), forestry (e.g. sawdust, thinnings, and mill
waste), municipal solid wastes (e.g. waste paper) and various
industrial wastes all over the world. Table 6 summarizes the worldwide
generation of lignocellulosic residues.
