with anti-HSV activities can be divided into 91 classes with the
APG III System.
The family Asteraceae is the largest group, with
9.0% of the plants belonging to this family.
The second most abundant group is the family
Fabaceae,
which accounts for 7.7%
of the total plants. Table 2 lists all 91 classes, containing 222
plants; 57 classes that occurred only once were omitted. The
omitted families,
including Amaranthaceae,
Cistaceae,
Malpighiaceae,
and Scrophulariaceae,
might be significant
reservoirs of active natural products. However, given the lack
of detailed reports, we will not discuss these families further.
