This paper described a situation where recommendations
based on a study on Travel Health were implemented while
still on research location. This does not mean to take away
responsibility from the local health authorities. Rather, it is
an additional small-scale effort to assist a group of local
people in need of health information. This experience may
serve as an example that action in response to research
findings does not have to wait until after publication, nor
are extensive formal preparations necessary in every case.
Small activities can also assist in improving local health.
Low budget material purchased locally (assisting local small
business at the same time), some good will and creativity
allow the researcher to give something back to the
community without much delay. The simple example presented here demonstrates how Travel Health researchers
can include the health of the local host community in their
professional endeavours.
