Beer exports should be increased to make use of a sharp increase in surplus production capacity when a new Chang brewery opens in the north later this year, industry sources say.
Thanit thamsukati, an adviser to beer Thai (1991), the brewer of chang beer, said the industry's total capacity stood at 2.3 billion litres a year, compared with production of one billion litres.
With the additional 500-million-litre capacity from the new brewery in kamphaeng Phet, the potential output would be 2.8 billion litres.
Mr. Thanit suggested the government help promote beer exports to increase capacity use and absorb actual production.
"Most importantly, the government should include beer as a highlighted product given the huge revenue potential, " he said.
