In this study, we found that moderately obese children have almost 25% and extremely
obese 35% more injuries of the lower extremities than normal weight children. The
association between obesity and injuries was strongest for fractures, sprains/strains and
dislocations of the lower extremities. We did observe some variation in the magnitude of
risk across age groups, but the overall conclusions remained consistent, suggesting that age
did not appreciably modify the associations to warrant age-specific recommendations
