The necessary authority to accompany the delegated
responsibility must be granted. A proper balance
of responsibility and authority contributes to successful
delegation and desired organizational and individual
outcomes; whereas an improper balance undermines
effective delegation and results in undesirable organizational
and individual outcomes. The third element
of the delegation process, accountability, brings responsibility
and authority into alignment by holding the
subordinate to task for the delegation based on the
responsibility and authority that they have been
granted.
