Tak Bat Devo is the tradition to recall when the Buddha returned from his visit to his mother in Tavatimsa Heaven. The biggest Tak Bat Devo event is held at Wat Sung Gus Rattanakiri.
Tak Bat Devo comes from the word Devorohana, which means the day the Buddha returned from his visit to his mother in Tavatimsa Heaven. As the legend goes, the villagers of Sung Gus Nakorn were very delighted when the Buddha returned so they came to give food offerings to him. This event was called Tak Bat Devorohana and later named Tak Bat Devo. The ceremony is done at the end of the Buddhist Lent.
The biggest event of this tradition is held at Wat Sung Gus Rattanakiri, Uthaithani. On that day, the Buddha image is invited from the chedi at the Sagaekrang temple together with the group of monks in order to come and collect food offerings from the local people.
Food
A popular food in Uthaithani is fish, especially giant gourami prepared in various kinds of dishes such as fried giant gourami or with a chilli sauce topping.
The most popular restaurant is Nok Noi on the banks of the Sagaekrang River, which is near the bridge to Taepo Island.
