Chatri" is a from of dance - play which formerly popular in the southern parn parts of thailand. According to the tradition, the Chatri is the protoype of all froms of Thai dance - plays which are its modification of successive periods. lt is the custom that the leading male dancer of the troupe must perform a prelude which is known as the "Rum Sat" to the accompaniment of pipe , thones and drums. This preliminary dance is actudlly the ceremony of paying homage to the player's theachers of drmatic arts.
In this instance, We have adapted the original "Ram Sat" for group dancing by both male and female dancer. Only the graceful movements of the old dance are retained while new gestures are adaed to make it modern and attractive. It is a development of the old "Rum Sat" dance to meet the requirements of modern dance
The important and distinctive feature of this "Rum Sat" dance is the wellregulated union detween the dancers movements and the tempo of drumbeats. The deummers must alos keep in perfect time with the dancers through out the dance. In short , there must by complete harmony between musicians and dancers in order to make this dance a success.
