Job description
The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) seeks applicants for a water resource management and modelling expert at the Research Associate or Research Fellow level. Applicants should have a Masters or PhD degree relevant to water resources management, planning and modelling. Proficiency in using SEI’s Water Evaluation and Planning System (WEAP) will be an advantage.
The appointee will be working with colleagues at the Asia Centre in Bangkok as well as SEI colleagues worldwide. The appointee will be responsible for carrying out WEAP-based analyses on a variety of projects, and will lead WEAP trainings. The appointee may do other types of quantitative analysis, such as GIS or statistical analysis, depending on background and skills. This is a research position, and the appointee will be expected to write both internal and external reports, briefings, and papers, as well as papers for peer-review.
The appointee will report directly to the MR4SD Research Group Leader and the specific project leaders or managers, under overall supervision by the Asia Centre Director.
Essential Criteria
- Masters or PhD degree in relevant subject, e.g. civil or environmental engineering, hydrology, water resources engineering and management, agricultural engineering or related fields.
- At least 5 years’ experience on applications of various hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g. rainfall-runoff model, water balance model, and hydro-dynamic model)
- Experience in data collection from concerned organizations and secondary sources
- Good skill in data-processing for model inputs
- Good background in, and ability to apply, other quantitative approaches, such as statistical analysis, and GIS/RS
- Strong motivation, personal initiative and commitment to excellence and results.
- Good understanding of the concept of environmental sustainability.
- Demonstrated record of oral and written communication.
- Good inter-personal skills and desire to work in a collaborative environment.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
