Our modern carrots are descended from wild progenitors that grew – and
Still grow – in Afghanistan. Carrots as we know them were developed in Holland in the 17th century, and are now cultivated in temperate climates around the world. In addition to the familiar long, tapered orange carrots, they may be cylindrical , stubby , round,or finger-size,and in colour purple, yellow, dark red, or white. All carrots have a refreshing taste and aroma when very fresh, and their natural sugars make them delightfully sweet.
