Lastly linguists do not make judgment, they describe. Therefore the English language was socially chosen to become a world standard language. It is a codified form of a language accepted by most communities. South Africa does not have a standard language. One cannot ignore the fact that English as a global language is able to connect human beings to work and understand each other better. Even though English is a superstructure language, it puts a major threat on the dying languages in South Africa and many other countries in the world. In conclusion a child enters the world with a clean slate and contains no ideas about the world or language. The child is then slowly conditioned by the environment. Many parents in South Africa speak English and therefore their children acquire the same language as they grow up. However, one may realize that every South African home needs to aim to teach their children a minimum of two languages, so that we could preserve the beautiful and many languages in our country. Therefore English shouldn’t be the global language. Neither should any other language. The world doesn’t need a global language but needs more cultural exchange and less cultural imperialism. English should be considered a neutral language whichenables different society to communicate with each other without assimilating the second language or any other languages.
