There are homes out there that are made to look like sport balls. Modern form is new, sleek, and innovative. Though at times, these structures are made for looks more than anything. There is no other purpose for these structures, some of which a person cannot even get into. They are a way for the architect to show his art.

It is allowing the designer to experiment and try to remotely old ideas or come up with new ideas not imagined of before.

What does function mean? What is the purpose of using wood instead of steel of vice versa? Function is describing the material or idea used and fitting a certain purpose.

During the Renaissance, architects had limited materials to work with. There was no such thing as metal or plastic. Anyone who tried to expand their ideas was considered lunatics. Not only were the materials limited but how these materials were to be used was as well. Marble is one of the materials used to construct churches. The church itself was limited on what its function was. There were many limits architects dealt with. The true contributors to the designs were the men that worked to make the model real. These men worked hard to get the money they desperately need and at times put their lives in danger to make sure they had some way to support their family. These men left their sweat and blood in these designs. In the end, Renaissance architects had more limits.

There were not many people they could consult with. They work still exists today and is molding some designers to a world with new adventures.

Modern function overweighing form is not seen often. It is most noticeable when one looks at office buildings. Many have beige like exterior color with limited dark widows that are not that big. They are not that appealing to look at. This is not that big of a problem for modern architects are redefining how a building should function. They have more materials to choose from some of which are not even invented yet... Most are no longer limited to one function. Take for example schools. Its main purpose is to educate the students but we often see students doing other activates as sports, volunteering, or just socializing on school grounds. Architects also have the opportunity to work with other designers who may not always be traditional designers. They have the chance to use others ideas to improve their own.

The architects express themselves through their work, the work define who they are.

Architects change as time passes. They will have more ideas and materials to work with. Not only that but the public influences how the structure looks. What is “normal” changes as time passes because the culture changes as well. The form and function of the work was well balanced when Renaissance architects build and designed their work. This does not mean the past no logger matters. People all over the world travel to Italy to see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel or his David. Brunelleschi’s Dome is still standing after 600 years. New architects also visit these places for they want to observe every detail. They respect the work and want to have work that is also respected for many years. Though these new ideas may not always work. Structures have fallen because they do not have enough support. Stadiums are blown up to make newer and better ones. Earthquakes have greatly damaged houses, skyscrapers, etc. The architects focus more on the form than the function. There are churches that look like office buildings. Houses whose paint is peeling off. Schools with not enough windows with not enough or too much heat/cold. The architects focus more on the function than the form. The I-35W Mississippi River Bridge fell tragically killing 13 people and injuring around 100 others. Though these cases are not desired, architects can go back and see what the problem was so that it does not happen again. Even so, the fact that the architects are trying new things shows architecture is a great role in people’s daily lives. Change happens as time passes.
