2. There are far too many types of constructivism to discuss in one small section here. One
of the major flavors of constructivism is social learning theory, or social constructivism.
It differs from the type of constructivism discussed here in that it has a conspicuously
public element. Social constructivism ‘sees consensus between different subjects as the ultimate
criterion to judge knowledge. “Truth” or “reality” will be accorded only to those constructions
on which most people of a social group agree’ (Murphy, 1997, p. 5). All of the different
types of constructivism, however, share the same epistemology and ontology.
