How fast is my CPU?
The number of operations CPU can perform depend on it's speed. The speed of the CPU is measured in Hertz. One hertz means that one operation is performed per one second. The typical speed or or computers are measured in giga hertz. 1 GHz means, that one million simple tasks can be performed on that processor. The term "simple task" means the smallest steps a processor can perform. Usually the processor understands and performs assembly instructions that last 4 cycles. The faster your CPU is, the more instructions it can perform in one second. But do not let this number to fool you. The speed of the CPU is not the only metric that influences the performance of your computer. There are many factors such as CPU architecture, cash size, bus speed and many other that must be evaluated to get independent results. So do not chase the highest speed when buying. Evaluate all the factors.
