The Studio days are times for the students to work on their teams in a controlled
environment. As with pitch days, the studio is an opportunity for the instructor to practice
just-in-time instruction. It can be a challenge for those who experienced purely didactic
instruction to adopt the behaviors and perspectives of constructionism. That is, it can be
hard to formulate pedagogy as a "guide on the side" if one has only ever been a "sage on
the stage." Environments like App Inventor can help faculty with the transition because:
they are easy to learn for both faculty and students; due to their expert mental models,
faculty will learn them faster; and students' high level of motivation will keep them
interested and active
