Diets for newly weaned pigs contain as high as 8%
lipid to increase both energy and fat supply. Systematic
evaluation of fat supplementation of nursery pig diets
showed a transition phase in fat digestibility during
the initial 3-wk postweaning period for pigs weaned
at 21 d of age, which corresponded to a decrease in
pancreatic lipase from d 3 and 7 and an increase from
d 7 and 28 postweaning (Cera et al., 1988, 1990a).
