The shape of extruded products will be determined by the shape of the holes in the final die. Round openings in the die can produce a small Bead, a thick flake, or a chunk of expanded agglomerate dependent upon the speed of the knife that cuts the round extrusions. An oval opening can produce a small wafer, a thin flake, dependent upon the speed with which the extrusions is cut into lengths. A macaroni type die will produce a small, doughnut shaped extrudate or a short tube of product, again, dependent upon knife speed. Nylon and bronze inserts in dies are sometimes used to created special shapes or final product forms.
