The main idea behind this systematic development effort was to use student and teacher input
to select two new development targets every year. The selected targets were typically items with
the lowest average scores in the feedback questionnaire, weaknesses, or development suggestions
mentioned by the students, and defects observed by the teacher. The action plan for developing
the courses was based on a sociocultural view of learning (Vygotsky 1978) and ideas on how to
support and increase student motivation. Subsequently, the two targets selected for improvement
were discussed with students and the lecturers, and course methods were revised for the next
implementation.
