The centre provinces of Thailand, especially Bangkok, are suffering from an excessive number of cars and vehicles, the main cause of air pollution, while water pollution is a close second. Water pollution can be seen in many of the city's canals, which are black in colour and give off an offensive odor due to a lack of dissolved oxygen. Another problem is flooding in the city, which is exacerbated by over-development and rapid economic expansion. In the last two decades the environmental problems in Bangkok have worsened rapidly, primarily as result of human activities. This is quite worrisome as Thailand does not actually face that many serious hazards; it is situated in an ideal location and the country could be rid of its environmental problems quite easily. Everything stems from our actions.
