Justification:
Vernonia sechellensis was only recorded once, from Mahé by Horne in 1874. It hasn't been recorded in numerous surveys and collections throughout the 20th century. It is therefore assumed that this species is Extinct. The date of extinction can not be determined. The reason for the extinction of this species is without doubt the extensive clear cutting of Mahé at the beginning of the 20th century, which has lead to the destruction of much of the primary forest.
