Conclusion
The findings of our review guided by the RE-AIM
framework indicate that intervention programs targeting
parents have the potential to be effective in improving
childhood overweight and obesity in the short-term and there
is suggestion that this effect may remain up to 2 years.
However, intervention programs targeting parents for
childhood overweight and obesity have not reached high-risk
populations and have demonstrated high attrition. Further
research is necessary to improve the reach and implementation
of intervention programs and examine efficacy/
effectiveness in families of diverse race/ethnicity and low
socioeconomic status. Researchers should also consider
reporting the reach, adoption, implementation, and maintenance
of programs in addition to program efficacy.
