Treatment of femur fractures
The JHH (level-1 trauma centre) is supported by an orthopaedic
service of eight experienced general orthopaedic surgeons (including
one orthopaedic trauma specialist). During the entire study
period, the decision on the fixation method was at the discretion of
the attending orthopaedic surgeon with or without consultation with
the trauma specialist. All intramedullary nails were performed after
reaming with anterograde or retrograde nail insertion and both
proximal and distal locking. External fixation was performed using
a unilateral frame with two or three pins in both main fragments of
the broken femur.
