The Tripataka Hall, the monastic library where the ancient Buddhist scriptures are kept, used to be King Rama I's residence prior to his enthronement. He donated to Wat Bang Wha Yai (former name of Wat Rakang) before went to war. After his enthronement, and when the sorting of Buddhist scriptures were completed, King Rama I ordered the relocation of his three-section residence to be reconstructed in the pond behind the ubosot where the ancient bell was discovered
and named it the Tripitaka Hall. The rebuilding and all the craftsmanship were under the supervision of King Rama II when he was still the Crown Prince. Another major renovation took place in the present reign and once again the Hall was moved inside the Phutthawat at its present location
