We carried out the thematic analysis based on empirical data
that was generated through different methods. After transcribing
the recorded interviews into texts and gathering other types of
generated data such as field notes and photographs, we approached
the rich material through reading, discussing and reflecting to
identify patterns by clustering similarities in the material. The
next step was to organize the material around themes by which
the clusters could be headed. In this way, we developed an
understanding of the material. The use of photographs and video
helped to underline the text and was of great support when trying
to understand the rich material. The themes or categories that
evolved were: the challenge of learning, the action and experience
of physical movement and social interaction. We then discussed
these themes in relation to theories and notions such as physical
literacy and self-efficacy to further enhance our understanding.
