RAYONG - Tens of thousands of empty fertiliser and animal-feed bags have been washed ashore on Mae Ram Phueng Beach on Saturday.
The bags, ranging from 20-50 kilogrammes in size, were scattered at the popular tourist destination for a distance of five kilometres - from Lan Hin Khao to Royal Hotel Rayong. Operators of the hotels and restaurants lining the beach, as well as fishermen, joined hands in collecting the bags and piled them up for authorities to get rid of them later.
Villagers in the area said while they were at sea they saw so many of these bags off Koh Samet. The bags might have accumulated over time and since they are non-biodegradable, it is only a matter of time before they are washed ashore and cause damage to the beach, they said.
