A. Simulation Settings
In the simulation, the wireless subnetwork of FiWi and the traditional WMN use the same network topology for all simulated instances for the sake of fair comparision.
The difference between FiWi networks and traditional WMNs resides in the connections between gateways as illustrated in Fig. 2.
In our simulation, there are 50 wireless mesh routers which are randomly placed in the 400~400m2 square region.
Each router is equipped with a single radio that works on the single channel as in the IEEE 802.11a.
The channel capacity is c = 54Mbps.
Every node has a transmission range Rt = 35m and the ratio ƒÀ between Ri and Rt is set to 2. In general, we uniformly deploy 10 gateways (ONUs) in the square region and assume that any two gateways are beyond the transmission range of each other.
The maximal node degree d of the network topology ranges from 3 to 7.
In the traffic flow vector f, the traffic demand of each flow is rMbps which is one parameter.
