Sargassum, seaweed biomass was collected during low tide on the North Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Umdhloti Beach).
After the seaweed biomass was collected it was sun-dried for two days. The biosorbent was prepared by washing it with
0.1N HCl (to convert alginates to alginic acid) and then rinsing it with distilled water. The sargassum was then dried in
an oven for the duration of 24 hours at a temperature of 600C. The algae were then put in a grinder, to prepare for
different sizes of biomass. In order to separate the different sizes, the load was placed in a shaker and collected through
differently sized sieve trays.
