The amount of load shedding varies depending on the criticality
of the contingency, the load level and the availability of
generating units. Out of the 14 468 critical overloads, 8025 result
in load shedding in the pre-cascading phase, either to prevent
the cascade or as a result of the isolation of a load bus.
Fig. 14 indicates the breakdown of the amount of load shed.
It can be observed that the number of load shedding cases decreases
as the amount of load shedding increases. This is expected
as the frequency of larger blackouts is lower than the
frequency of smaller blackouts. In addition, Fig. 15 shows that
the number of load shedding cases increases as the load level
increases (using 8025 as base).
