To address parents’ lack of knowledge and skills in caring for (unsettled) infants, consistent, evidence-based
advice about managing unsettled infant behaviour should be given to parents by primary care providers.
Our data suggest that advice from nurses on this matter is currently diverse. In a recent national study of
Australian paediatricians, a similar lack of uniform responses to persistent infant crying was reported and
further training supported by evidence-based guidelines was recommended (Rimer and Hiscock 2014).
