The present study examined the relationship of self-reported “problematic
food” macronutrients to the development of post-WLS SUDs. As
hypothesized, those with greater pre-WLS problems with High-Sugar/
Low-Fat foods and/or High GI foods were at greater risk of developing
New Onset SUD (versus no SUD), even after controlling for family SUD
history (Dawson, Harford, & Grant, 1992) and pre-surgical BMI.
