Albino Wistar rats strain weighing 170-200 g of both sexes were used for acute toxicity and antioxidant activity studies. The animals were bred and maintained in the animal house of the M. S. Ramaiah College of Pharmacy. The animal house was maintained under standard hygienic conditions, at a room temperature of 27±1°C and room humidity (60 %±10 %) with a 12 h day and night cycle. Animal care was in accordance with CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experimentation on Animals) guidelines. The study protocol was approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee of the M. S. Ramaiah College of Pharmacy.
