So what's it like?
For an all round winter experience you can’t beat Norway.
Skiing is a way of life to the locals. There can be snow on the doorstep for up to six months each year – so the kids grow up as absolute naturals on the mountain. And with such reliable snow and perfectly groomed runs it’s no surprise they’ve won more gold medals at the Winter Olympics than any other nation.
Norway is a beginner and intermediate’s paradise, and each of our resorts has something different to offer. Trysil has the largest ski area in the country, with everything from wide, confidence-building blue runs to tricky blacks and loads of off-piste. In Geilo you can ski perfectly-groomed slopes on both sides of the valley, all with incredible views. Hemsedal has the perfect mix of runs for the day and après spots for the evening. Beitostølen is the smallest resort and has an excellent ski school, making it ideal for beginners and families.
Then there’s cross-country (or Nordic) skiing – a chance to see the snowy landscapes from a different angle. Norway is also known for the wealth of fun winter activities on offer – make time for dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice-rally driving and toboganning and you’ve got a fun-filled week ahead of you. If you fancy something really different, head to Beitostølen where adrenaline junkies can have a go at airboarding or the more sedate among you can spend the evening in a mountaintop tepee.
We simply love the traditional log cabins out here - jam-packed with Nordic charm and many have their own private saunas. If you prefer something a little more luxurious, we’ve also got modern self-catering apartments and hotels with indoor pools and spas.
Norway isn’t known for raucous après, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be found – Trysil and Hemsedal both have some great bars with plenty of live music and dancing on the tables. Things in Geilo and Beitostølen tend to be a bit quieter, with cosy bars where you can relax with a drink and mix with the locals – but be warned, drinking out can be pretty expensive.
Whichever resort you choose expect quiet slopes, friendly people, great food and an incredible winter experience.
