Thailand has rice pledging scheme for a long time. In the past, Thailand’s rice pledging scheme played a role as an alternative for Thai’s farmers that are always lowered the price in the season that has large quantities of the crop. However, the purposes of the rice pledging scheme in prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government were changed, and that change leads to problems. Those problems, such as labour costs rising, rice’s quality and losing exporting market, affect Thai’s economy because the government does not have ability to do the rice business.
The purposes of the rice pledging scheme in prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s government are to solve the problem of poverty of the farmers, to make farmer earn money close to other jobs and to make market mechanism be more fair and free.
