Florida's most visited ecological attraction is Everglades National Park (nps.gov/ever), the largest subtropical wilderness in North America. This wet grassland ecosystem is one of the few places in the world where alligators and crocodiles co-exist. You can go on a ranger-guided walk or bike along marked trails, but the best way to explore the region, says Frommer’s, is on the water, from a canoe, which allows for a close look at the park's aquatic life. Animals are most visible during the dry season, from December to May, when waters are low.
