Lt. Col. Harvey Seegmiller Ross, age 97, died in Phoenix, Arizona on Jan. 7, 2016. Harvey loved life and often expressed this sentiment. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1918, to William Harvey Ross and Sarah Seegmiller Ross.
Harvey graduated from the University of Utah, where he majored in Business and enjoyed participation in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He played stride piano tunes by ear, loved humor and was a marvelous dancer.
For many years, he and his wife, Betty Sue, a school teacher, were on the Board of the Utah Oratorio Society. He spent more than 20 years successfully selling Jeeps.
Harvey served during WWII in the U.S. Army in tanks and on the Burma Road (now Myanmar). He earned two bronze stars among other honors for his service. He retired from the Army at the end of the Vietnam War and became a Veteran's Administration counselor.
Harvey is survived by his daughters, Margaret Ann Bowman (Lyle, Ph.D.) and Jeanne Ross Winograd (Stephen, M.D.); two granddaughters, Juliet Bowman Simens (Erik) and Sarah Bowman Melear (Greg); and three great-grandchildren: Max and Joshua Simens and Margaret Lynn Melear.
A private memorial service was held in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, June 11, 2016.
