The interspecific hybridization in Jatropha species has played a significant role in crop improvement by transferring useful traits such as high oil content, maximum number of seeds, more femaleness and hard stem for making a hybrid variety of Jatropha. Making hybrid variety of Jatropha curcas is very potential because Jatropha curcas, as the most primitive member of the genus, has ability to interbreed with species from both genera. Jatropha genus has many species and each species has it own desirable trait (Table 1) that can be used for Jatropha curcas improvement by making hybrid varieties.
