4. Conclusion
The resultspresentedinthispaperdemonstratedtheeffectof
gamma irradiationonthepropertiesofchitosan.Furthermoreit
also addressedanimportantapplicationofradiationtechnology
with apotentialhighimpactonagricultureinthefutureespe-
cially applicationofirradiatedpolysaccharidesi.e.chitosanas
plant growthstimulators.Itcanbeconcludedfromtheabove
study that:(i)irradiationofchitinleadstomoreefficient
deacetylation (orallowstoperformdeacetylationundermilder
conditions incomparisontonon-irradiatedchitin),(ii)irradiation
causes significantdecreaseofTgofchitosanthanthatofnon-
irradiated one,(iii)gammaradiationgeneratesantimicrobial
properties tothechitosanwhichisbeneficiaryforitsapplication
in biomedicalpurposes,(iii)gammairradiatedchitosanexhibited
remarkable greaterstimulatoryeffectfor Malabar spinach in
comparison withthenon-irradiatedone.
