1.1. Theoretical framework
The Theory of Planned Behavior (TpB) has been utilized to identify predictors of AIDS-preventive beha- viors and delaying sexual initiation, and ultimately guiding
interventions to change a behavior (Ajzen, 2005a). The TpB was developed as an extension of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) to overcome the central criticism that the TRA did not consider situations where people behave under an incomplete volitional control (Ajzen,
2005a). Intention is an immediate antecedent of a corresponding behavior under a volitional control (Armi- tage et al., 1999). The percent of explained variance to intention and behavior, however, differs according to a behavior and a population (Ajzen, 2005a).
