Ralph is restaurant head waiter. He believes in driving his people hard to perform and requests that his manager discontinue the service of anyone who cannot perform at the formally communicated standard required after their probation period. He provides an extensive/far reaching (a lot) induction/training program for new employees and encourages those who make it through probation to continue to learn new skills and improve existing skills. He provides internal training opportunities every week and external training opportunities every year. He sees himself not as the employee’s friend but more as their mentor and during their entire tenure with the restaurant he remains insistent on performance standards. He is always polite and willing to engage in conversation about an employee’s professional life and gets a feeling of contentment that shows when his employees improve their knowledge, skills and behaviour. He provides well-performing employees with the opportunity to stretch themselves and learn more.
