Strengthening mechanisms have 3 main processes 1. Work hardening 2. Solid solution strengthening 3. Precipitation hardening. In this experiment will explain about Precipitation hardening or Age hardening which is a process that can increase the strength and hardness of aluminium alloy by formation of finely dispersed precipitates of second phase in the original matrix. This process consist of 3 steps 1. Solution Treatment : heat to single phase region 2. Quenching : rapid cooling to get a supersaturated solid solution 3. Aging : to form finely dispersed precipitates ,so this impedes dislocation movement and then the strength and hardness increase.
