The structure of santalbic acid (4)
was determined by mass spectroscopy and one- and
two-dimensional NMR spectroscopic techniques. Santalbic
acid (4) had been previously isolated from Santalum
acuminatum and was shown to possess antibacterial
activity (Jones et al., 1995). To our knowledge
this is first report on the isolation of santalbic acid from
Olax subscorpioidea.
