In contrast to integration into one’s peer group, from parents’ perspective, juveniles’ preferences for particular conventional food are also an expression of distancing themselves and being critical towards their parents. For instance, one interviewee saw her son’s rejection of organic food as follows: ”this is a classical teenage squabble, to distance oneself, [. . .] and everything that is organic is just daft at the moment, from food, clothing, life-style, all this is daft. [. . .] however, if we did the direct opposite, [. . .] then he might tend in this direction of his own accord. One mostly behaves [. . .] in the opposite way to one’s parents“
