Carbohydrates were measured in monomeric form following acid hydrolysis to enable calculation of yield based on a common unit within the complex mixture of mono-, oligo-, and polysaccharides present in the co-digestion. Glucose was the primary monomer and the most preferentially consumed. Glucose comprised 54.6–56 g L−1 at hour zero and 4.8–9.7 g L−1 at 24 h. Comparatively, galactose comprised 2.6–3.9 g L−1 at hour zero and 2.2–2.4 g L−1 at 24 h.
