Often the sereticent students thrive when it comes to other service-learning activities that involve working with
people who have HIV and their families, but they sometimes seem offended by this event. Though they have little trouble claiming compassion for the PLWH/As they work with in other projects, it can be harder for them to feel compassion for their campus peers who might have different sexual standards from their own. They struggle with the relationship
between empathy and compassion as they process this experience.
