Vietnam is an emerging economy with fast market growth offering attractive opportunities for foreign businesses. Therefore, a number of international ad companies like J. Walter Thompson, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, River Orchid, Chuo Senko, Lowe, Ogilvy & Mather and Bates have set up operations here. WPP, one of the world’s top ad and communication groups, has acquired a stake of the local ad companies Dat Viet, Smart Media and T&A through its subsidiary Ogilvy & Mather. In this move, WPP hopes to gain a larger share of the local market thanks to the deep consumer insight of their local partners. During his visit to Vietnam in July 2009 on the occasion of the acquisition of T&A, Sir Martin Sorrell, WPP founder and CEO, said Vietnam was an important emerging market in Asia which could surpass some neighboring countries over the next few years.
