13.8 case study: Old Spice and YouTube
In order to appeal to a new hip market, Old Spice, together with their advertising
agency, Weiden+Kennedy, created a YouTube campaign that produced results far
beyond anyone’s imagination.
In 2010, the Proctor and Gamble brand, Old Spice, released a hugely successful
Superbowl advert, ‘the Man Your Man Could Smell like’. It featured Isaiah Mustafa,
a handsome, former NFL wide receiver, who promised women that he was the ‘man
your man could smell like’ even if no man could ever be as truly manly as The Old
Spice Man.
