Telles et al24 found an increase in static motor performance
after 10 days of yoga training in school children
aged 9 to 13 years. Two groups of 45 children
each were assessed on a steadiness test at the beginning
and the end of a 10-day period during which one
group received training in yoga while the other group
did not. After 10 days, the yoga group showed a significant
17% decrease in errors whereas the control
group showed no change. A later study by Telles et
al25 examined motor performance in young adults
using the same model. Subjects for this study included
2 groups of 20 college students aged 17 to 22
years, with the experimental group practicing yoga 8
hours each day for 10 days. The main outcome, hand
steadiness, improved with an 18% decrease in the
amount of errors in static motor performance following
yoga practice.
