C. The Educational Aima of Social Groups: Williams' Analysis
Williams (1961) distinguishes three groups: the industrial trainers, the old humanists and the public educators, whose ideologies have influenced education both in the past and in the present. He argues for the powerful influence of these groups on the foundations of British education in the nineteenth century. He also emphasizes their continued impact on education: 'these three groups can still be distinguished, although each has in some respects changed. ' (Williams,1978, quoted in Beck, 1981, page 91).
